Based on average outcomes from 58 Actowiz retail media clients · 2025–2026

📊 Real Outcome

How a beauty brand cut media spend 31% and grew share of shelf

Confidential Beauty & Personal Care · US · $290M revenue
They were paying $38K a month for keywords where they already ranked first organically — and no competitor was bidding on them.

The brand's ad console showed a healthy ROAS and their agency reported growing impression share, so nothing looked wrong. Actowiz captured organic and sponsored slots together across 1,640 keywords for eight weeks and produced a different picture: 45% of their total visibility was bought, $68K a month went to keywords they would have won organically, and rival ad density fell to 31% between 1am and 5am while their own bids ran flat 24/7. A cohort test paused the cannibalised terms in half the catalogue for three weeks — clicks were unchanged. Rolling that out plus a dayparting schedule cut spend 31% while share of shelf rose four points.

Questions about retail media intelligence

Everything media and ecommerce teams ask before going live with Actowiz

My ad console already reports impression share. What does this add?

Your console reports your own activity inside its own auction. It cannot tell you what share of the total shelf — organic plus sponsored — you hold, who else is bidding, what they are spending, or which of your paid clicks you would have won organically anyway. We capture the whole page, so paid and organic are measured side by side rather than reported separately.

How do you estimate competitor spend?

From observed impression share, average slot position, slot-level click distribution and category CPC bands, sampled hourly. The model is back-tested against actual invoices from fourteen clients who shared them, and carries an error band of roughly ±11% at monthly level. We report the band, not a single confident number.

What exactly is cannibalisation and how do you prove it?

It is spend on keywords where you already hold the top organic position and no competitor is sponsoring. The click would very likely have come to you for free. We identify those keywords, then recommend a cohort test — pause them for half the catalogue for three weeks and compare. Clients typically find 20 to 35% of programme spend falls into this bucket.

Which networks and categories do you cover?

Amazon Ads, Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, Instacart Ads and Flipkart Ads across 38 categories, with Kroger Precision Marketing, Criteo retail and Zepto Ads available on request. Amazon captures hourly; the others range from two to four hours. Additional networks take about a week to add.

Can this drive our bidding automatically?

Yes. Most clients push the feed into their bid management platform through our REST API, so bids respond to observed shelf position rather than yesterday's report. You also get daily CSV or Parquet exports and Slack alerts when a rival enters a keyword you own or when CPC on a cluster moves beyond a threshold you set.

How long before we see savings?

The cannibalisation report is ready within seven days of kickoff and usually identifies the largest single saving immediately. Because it needs a cohort test to confirm, most clients act on it in week four or five. Dayparting can be applied straight away and typically shows up in effective CPC within a fortnight.
