Economic Times India Business News Dataset — Four Times a Day
The Economic Times is India's largest business daily, and this file captures every article it publishes, four times a day — 14 columns covering headline, standfirst, full article text, author, publication time to the minute, permalink, article ID and images.
The flow is heavy: 50 articles in under six hours in the supplied sample, from the rupee and Indian bonds to US stocks and the Supreme Court. About a third is wire copy from Reuters, PTI and ANI, labelled in author_name.
The file already exists, because this pipeline runs four times a day whether you buy it or not. Most vendors start collecting after you order — which is why they quote a lead time. Here the most recent file is in your account within minutes of payment, with an API key issued at the same time.
What you get, in plain terms
Four things. India's business newspaper of record, captured every six hours with the author and section on every row.
Section in every permalink
The permalink carries the section — markets, politics, industry — so you can filter the feed to the desks you need without a separate field.
Staff, desk or wire — on every row
author_name names the reporter, the desk (“ET Online”, “Trending Desk”) or the wire (Reuters, PTI, ANI), so original reporting can be separated from syndicated copy.
Full text with a standfirst
A median of 533 words per article, plus the one-line summary in media_title — different from the headline on 49 of 50 rows.
However you want it
Direct download, REST API, Amazon S3, Google Cloud, Snowflake or SFTP. The API key comes with the dataset.
Fields included in this dataset
All 14 columns, in the exact order they appear in the file — taken straight from the sample, not from a brochure. The free sample ships with a data dictionary giving an example value for each one.
Sample rows from the real file
Real rows from the sample file, not an illustration. The supplied sample has 50 articles with all 14 columns.

We can extend this dataset beyond the standard 14 columns — a section field and NSE/BSE ticker tags are the most requested additions.

About Economic Times news data
The Economic Times is India's most-read business newspaper and one of its busiest news sites. Its coverage runs from Indian markets, the RBI and corporate results to national politics, courts and international business.
What six hours of ET looks like
The sample ran from the rupee hitting a three-week low as the RBI stood guard, oil pinning Indian bonds in a range and India ranking as Asia's least-favoured market in a BofA poll, to Supreme Court orders on the coal scam, McDonald's nearing Dividend King status and lifestyle pieces from ET Panache. Fifty articles in under six hours — which is why a once-a-day capture falls behind.
Original reporting versus wire copy
17 of 50 sampled articles were credited to Reuters, PTI or ANI, and another 16 to ET's own desks such as “ET Online” and “Trending Desk”. Because author_name keeps that distinction, you can weight or filter syndicated copy in any model.
Two things to plan for
Column names are lower-case with underscores — published_date, author_name — unlike our other news feeds, so map them if you combine sources. reach and web_share are empty on every row, and ET runs lifestyle and travel content alongside business; filter on the section in the permalink.
Is collecting this data legal?
We collect only publicly accessible pages, respect robots.txt and platform terms, and align with GDPR and CCPA — the only personal data in the file is the public byline a publisher prints. Article text remains the publisher's copyright: the standard licence covers internal analysis such as monitoring, research and signal extraction, not republishing. Each row carries its permalink and publication time as documented provenance, so your legal team can review the source before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
