Nikkei Japanese Business News Dataset — Four Times a Day
Nikkei is Japan's leading business newspaper, and this file captures every article on nikkei.com, four times a day — 14 columns covering headline, Japanese article text, publication time to the second, permalink, Nikkei's article ID and images.
It is Japan's corporate and market record as it happens: 45 articles in about four hours in the supplied sample — results from Sundrug and MatsukiyoCocokara, SK Hynix's record buyback, the yen after intervention, and the UAE halting trade with Iran.
The file already exists, because this pipeline runs four times a day whether you buy it or not. Most vendors start collecting after you order — which is why they quote a lead time. Here the most recent file is in your account within minutes of payment, with an API key issued at the same time.
What you get, in plain terms
Four things. The Japanese-language source global investors rely on for Japan, captured every six hours.
Earnings and market data as published
Company results, commodity closes and daily lending-fee tables arrive as articles, the same afternoon the market moves.
Japanese text, UTF-8
Titles and bodies in Japanese as published — a median of 611 characters, up to 4,385 — ready for Japanese NLP or translation.
Nikkei's own article ID
article_id is Nikkei's permanent identifier, such as “DGXZQOUC0641R006082026000000”, so rows join to any other Nikkei reference.
However you want it
Direct download, REST API, Amazon S3, Google Cloud, Snowflake or SFTP. The API key comes with the dataset.
Fields included in this dataset
All 14 columns, in the exact order they appear in the file — taken straight from the sample, not from a brochure. The free sample ships with a data dictionary giving an example value for each one.
Sample rows from the real file
Real rows from the sample file, not an illustration. The supplied sample has 45 articles with all 14 columns.
Coverage
Captured four times a day across nikkei.com. One row is one article, identified by Nikkei's article_id and permalink, with the publication time to the second.

About Nikkei news data
Nikkei — Nihon Keizai Shimbun — is Japan's leading business daily and owner of the Nikkei stock index. Its Japanese-language site is the primary source for Japanese corporate news, often hours ahead of English-language coverage.
Four hours of Nikkei
Namura Shipbuilding building a large dock in Saga, the first new one in Japan since 2017; the euro recovering against the yen after coordinated intervention; SK Hynix planning a ¥4.5 trillion buyback; construction stocks at a year-to-date low; results from Chugin Financial, Sundrug and a record profit at MatsukiyoCocokara; and the UAE suspending trade and financial links with Iran.
Market data in article form
Some of Nikkei's most useful items are structured briefs: the daily reverse lending-fee table, commodity closes at 15:45 with gold and crude, and counts of falling stocks on the Prime market. They arrive as articles in the same file, timestamped to the second.
Two things to plan for
author_name is empty on every row because Nikkei does not print bylines online, and media_title repeats the headline on 43 of 45 rows. Column names are lower-case with underscores, so map them if you combine sources. Member-only stories carry the text Nikkei shows publicly.
Is collecting this data legal?
We collect only publicly accessible pages, respect robots.txt and platform terms, and align with GDPR and CCPA — the only personal data in the file is the public byline a publisher prints. Article text remains the publisher's copyright: the standard licence covers internal analysis such as monitoring, research and signal extraction, not republishing. Each row carries its permalink and publication time as documented provenance, so your legal team can review the source before you buy.
