Expedia Data Scraping

One group, several consumer brands, and the same room on the same night at different prices across them.

Expedia data scraping collects hotel rates, room types, rate plan conditions and availability across Expedia Group's consumer brands. The structural point most feeds miss: the group runs several brands that frequently show the same property at different prices, so brand is a dimension and a group-level Expedia rate is a number that does not exist.

Parity analysis usually compares an OTA to a hotel's own site. Before that comparison is valid, you have to decide which of the group's brands you mean.

Free pilot on your own Expedia Group list, returned in 24 hours. No card, no trial clock — and you keep the sample data either way.

Platform specifics

What multi-brand distribution does to a rate series

These are the reasons a Expedia Group dataset needs its own handling rather than a shared retail schema.

The same room, the same night, different prices by brand

Expedia Group operates several consumer-facing booking brands. They share inventory relationships and frequently list the same property — and the displayed rate is not always identical between them.

  • Rate plans available differ by brand, so the cheapest plan on one is not necessarily on another.
  • Promotional and member mechanics differ per brand.
  • A parity finding against 'Expedia' is therefore ambiguous until the brand is named.

brand is on every record. Any group-level figure is a computed rollup with the brand detail retained, so it can be decomposed — the same discipline our Loblaw page applies to retail banners.

Why this matters for parity work specifically

A hotel investigating an OTA rate below its direct price needs to know which brand showed it. Reporting "Expedia was cheaper" when three of the group's brands showed three different rates is an observation the hotel cannot act on.

Rate plans and two dates, as on any OTA

The fundamentals from our MakeMyTrip page apply unchanged here, so rather than restate them at length:

  • The record is a rate plan, not a hotel. Refundable and non-refundable, breakfast-included and room-only are different products, and a single hotel price averages things a guest chooses between.
  • Both dates travel with every record. Stay date and observation date, with lead_time_days derived, because the same night costs different amounts seen 90 days out and 3 days out.
  • A useful dataset observes the same stay dates repeatedly, rather than today's prices daily. Only the first produces a pricing curve.

Where Expedia adds a complication

Package rates. Where a rate is only available bundled with a flight, it is not comparable to a room-only rate — the discount is funded by the bundle. We flag is_package_rate and exclude those from room-only comparisons rather than letting them depress an apparent room price.

Member rates, and what we do not do about them

Parts of Expedia Group's pricing require a signed-in member session. That is the same situation as Prime pricing at Whole Foods and member pricing on retailers generally.

  • We collect what an anonymous visitor sees. No account creation, no client credentials.
  • Where a rate is member-gated, the field is null with a reason.
  • We report gated_share per brand and property set, so you know what proportion of the picture your analysis can see.
  • We never substitute the public rate where a member rate was hidden.

Substitution would show the OTA as less aggressive than it is — and show it confidently, because the column is populated. On parity work specifically that inverts the finding: a hotel would conclude its rates were being respected when they were being undercut behind a login.

Scope

What we collect on Expedia Group, and what we do not

The right column matters more than the left. Anyone can list fields; the limits are what tell you whether the dataset will hold up.

✅ What we collect

  • One record per rate plan per brand, with brand on every record
  • Group figures as computed rollups, with brand detail retained
  • Stay date and observation date, plus derived lead time
  • Refundable, breakfast and payment timing as structured flags
  • is_package_rate flagged, excluded from room-only comparison
  • Member rate only where publicly displayed, with a flag
  • gated_share reported per brand and property set
  • Property identity, star rating and location
  • Availability state, distinct from a property not being listed

❌ What we do not, and why

  • A group-level Expedia rate presented as the rate
  • Public rate substituted where a member rate was gated
  • A package rate compared against a room-only rate
  • Occupancy, bookings or how full a property is
  • Guest or reviewer personal data

Core Expedia Group fields

The full dictionary is agreed during scoping. These are the fields specific to this platform.

brand Which group brand. The dimension most feeds omit
property_id / property_name / city The hotel and where it is
room_type / rate_plan_id The record is the plan
stay_date / observed_at / lead_time_days Both dates, and the axis derived from them
rate / currency / rate_basis Rate, and whether it is inclusive of tax
refundable / cancellation_window Structured, not inferred from copy
breakfast_included / payment_timing Inclusions as flags
is_package_rate Flagged, and excluded from room-only comparison
rate_member / member_rate_public / gated_reason Member rate only where publicly shown
gated_share Per brand and property set, per batch

Use cases

What teams do with Expedia Group data

Rate parity that names the brand

Plan-level records with brand on each, so a hotel investigating an OTA rate below its direct price knows which brand showed it — and can act on it.

Intra-group brand spread

The same property across group brands, showing where the group prices its own channels apart, which is not visible from any single brand's data.

Pricing curve by lead time

The same stay dates observed repeatedly with lead time derived, producing the curve that daily snapshots of today's prices cannot show.

Gated-rate coverage assessment

The share of rates requiring a member session, reported per brand, so a parity programme states how much of the picture it can actually see.

How we engage

Three ways to engage us

Same collection pipeline and QA underneath. The difference is who holds the schedule and how the data reaches you.

Managed service (most common)

We own the collection, the QA and the delivery. You receive clean data on a schedule and never touch a scraper.

  • Dedicated engineer assigned to your account
  • Site changes fixed by us, not reported to you
  • Scheduled delivery to your warehouse or S3
  • Named contact on Slack or email

Best fit: Teams who need the data, not the infrastructure.

API access

REST endpoints on the same pipeline, with sandbox keys for testing.

  • On-demand and scheduled endpoints
  • Rate limits agreed to your load profile
  • Sandbox keys for integration testing
  • Versioned schema with deprecation notice

Best fit: Product and engineering teams building on live data.

One-time or project extraction

A fixed-scope extraction for a single project or research question.

  • Fixed scope agreed in writing upfront
  • Single delivery with full QA report
  • Methodology documented for your records
  • Converts to managed if you want continuity

Best fit: Research, strategy and diligence work with a deadline.

Pricing

Pricing is quoted individually, based on category scope, number of markets, cadence and ongoing identity maintenance. After a scoping call and free pilot, we quote a fixed monthly figure, with no per-request metering.

Expedia Group is usually collected alongside its competitors

Almost nobody buys a single platform in isolation. Expedia Group data becomes useful when it sits next to the competitor set on one schema, refreshed on one schedule, so a price index or availability comparison is genuinely like-for-like.

That is what travel & hospitality data covers, and a Expedia Group-only engagement can be expanded into it without rebuilding. If you already know you need several platforms, start there instead — it is the same pipeline and usually the better scoping conversation.

FAQ

Expedia Group data scraping: frequently asked questions

Platform-specific questions, including what cannot be collected here.

Because Expedia Group runs several consumer brands that frequently list the same property at different prices, with different rate plans available on each.

Reporting 'Expedia was cheaper' when three group brands showed three rates is an observation a hotel cannot act on. brand is on every record and group figures are computed rollups.

A rate only available bundled with a flight. The discount is funded by the bundle, so it is not comparable to a room-only rate.

We flag is_package_rate and exclude those from room-only comparison rather than letting them depress an apparent room price — which would produce a parity breach that is not one.

Only where publicly displayed. We do not create accounts or use client credentials. Where a rate is member-gated the field is null with a reason and we report gated_share per brand.

We never substitute the public rate. On parity work that would invert the finding — a hotel would conclude its rates were respected when they were being undercut behind a login.

Because the same night costs different amounts seen 90 days out and 3 days out. With one date you cannot tell whether the market moved or the booking window closed.

A useful dataset also observes the same stay dates repeatedly rather than today's prices daily — only the first produces a curve.

No. Occupancy is not published, and inferring it from rate availability is the same error as inferring Airbnb occupancy from calendar blocks.

We deliver availability states with timestamps and lead time, and the inference stays yours.

We quote individually. The grid is the driver: brands times properties times stay dates times rate plans times observation dates. Brand count multiplies everything, which is why most engagements scope two or three rather than all.

One scoping call, a free pilot within 24 hours, then a fixed monthly quote. Request a quote.
