Rentalcars Data Scraping

A broker does not own cars. It sells someone else's inventory at its own price — which is why a broker rate and a direct rate are two observations, not one.

Rentalcars data scraping collects broker-quoted car rental rates across suppliers, locations and date ranges. The distinction that shapes everything: a broker is not an operator. It resells supplier inventory at a price it sets, so a broker rate for a given supplier and that supplier's own direct rate are two different numbers for the same car, and neither is wrong.

Our Hertz page covers an operator quoting its own rates. This is the other side, and the difference is not a detail — it is a different commercial relationship producing a different price.

Free pilot on your own Rentalcars list, returned in 24 hours. No card, no trial clock — and you keep the sample data either way.

How we handle Rentalcars specifically

Platform-specific handling, not a generic retail template pointed at a different domain.

Model

Platform specifics

What a broker changes about the price

These are the reasons a Rentalcars dataset needs its own handling rather than a shared retail schema.

The broker sets the price, and bundles differently

An operator like Hertz quotes its own rate for its own fleet. A broker holds inventory allocations from several suppliers and quotes its own price against them.

  • The broker's margin is inside the quoted price, not visible as a separate line.
  • Inclusions differ from direct booking — what cover is bundled, what is optional, and what is charged at the counter are broker decisions rather than supplier ones.
  • The counter experience differs. A broker booking frequently means the supplier tries to sell cover at pickup that the broker already included, or did not.
  • Cancellation terms are the broker's, not the supplier's.

price_setter is broker on every record, and supplier_name is captured where displayed. A dataset that mixes broker and direct rates without that field is averaging two commercial arrangements.

Which makes the comparison the product

Where you collect both this and supplier-direct rates, the gap between them is the finding — and it is an observation you compute from two records rather than a margin we assert. We do not infer a broker margin from one side, for the same reason we do not infer platform markup on our Uber Eats page.

Inclusions are where broker comparison actually goes wrong

Comparing a broker rate to a direct rate on headline price alone is the standard error, and inclusions are why.

  • A broker rate including full cover against a direct rate excluding it is not a price comparison.
  • Fuel policy differs between quotes for the same car.
  • Mileage caps may differ.
  • Additional driver and young driver charges may be bundled on one side and charged on the other.

We capture cover_included, fuel_policy, mileage_policy and included_extras as structured fields, and total_at_counter_note as published text where the quote mentions counter charges.

We do not compute a like-for-like adjusted rate. That would require pricing cover the other side did not quote, which is the same reason we will not estimate bills on our SpareRoom page.

Supplier availability is not supplier fleet

A supplier appearing on a broker means the broker has an allocation, not that the supplier has cars available directly. Absence means the broker has no allocation, which tells you nothing about the supplier. We record the presence and do not attribute a cause to an absence.

Everything the Hertz page says about rental structure applies

Rather than restating it: the structural fundamentals from our Hertz page apply unchanged here.

  • The record is a vehicle class at a location pair over a date range, not a car. "Or similar" is doing real work.
  • Per-day is derived from the total, never collected, because pricing is not linear in duration.
  • Each fee is its own field, and one-way drop fees can exceed the base rental.
  • No fleet size or utilisation. Not published, and class availability is not a vehicle count.

What differs is the price setter, the inclusions and the absence of a direct relationship with the fleet.

What we never collect

Driver, renter or booking data. Supplier and broker are commercial entities; individuals are not collected in any market.

Scope

What we collect on Rentalcars, and what we do not

The right column matters more than the left. Anyone can list fields; the limits are what tell you whether the dataset will hold up.

✅ What we collect

  • price_setter recorded as broker on every record
  • supplier_name where displayed, as a commercial entity
  • cover_included, fuel_policy, mileage_policy and included_extras as structured fields
  • total_at_counter_note as published text where the quote mentions it
  • Vehicle class, location pair and date range, as on any rental source
  • Per-day derived from the total, never collected
  • Each fee as its own labelled field
  • Supplier presence recorded, with no cause attributed to absence
  • Broker cancellation terms, which are not the supplier's

❌ What we do not, and why

  • A broker margin inferred from one side
  • A like-for-like adjusted rate pricing cover the other side did not quote
  • Broker and direct rates averaged without the price setter
  • A cause attributed to a supplier's absence from results
  • Fleet size, utilisation, driver or booking data

Core Rentalcars fields

The full dictionary is agreed during scoping. These are the fields specific to this platform.

Field What it is on this platform
price_setter / supplier_name broker, and whose inventory
vehicle_class / example_model / model_guaranteed The class, an example, not a promise
pickup_location / dropoff_location / is_one_way The location pair
pickup_date / rental_days / observed_at / lead_time_days The range, and both dates
total_price / currency / rate_per_day_derived Total, with per-day derived
cover_included / included_extras Broker bundling decisions
fuel_policy / mileage_policy Frequently differ from direct
total_at_counter_note As published, where the quote mentions counter charges
cancellation_terms The broker's, not the supplier's
supplier_present / absence_cause Presence recorded, cause not attributed
class_available Availability of the class, not a vehicle count

What teams do with Rentalcars data

Broker versus direct gap analysis

Price setter on every record so, where you also collect supplier-direct rates, the gap is an observation you compute from two records rather than a margin we assert.

Like-for-like comparison with inclusions visible

Cover, fuel policy and mileage as structured fields, so a broker rate including full cover is not compared against a direct rate excluding it on headline price.

Supplier distribution on brokers

Which suppliers appear for which routes and dates, recorded as presence — with absence noted and no cause attributed, since it reflects broker allocation rather than supplier fleet.

Route and duration pricing

The same grid discipline as any rental source, with one-way drop fees separate and per-day derived from the total.

How we engage

Three ways to engage us

Same collection pipeline and QA underneath. The difference is who holds the schedule and how the data reaches you.

Managed service (most common)

We own the collection, the QA and the delivery. You receive clean data on a schedule and never touch a scraper.

  • Dedicated engineer assigned to your account
  • Site changes fixed by us, not reported to you
  • Scheduled delivery to your warehouse or S3
  • Named contact on Slack or email

Best fit: Teams who need the data, not the infrastructure.

API access

The same collection pipeline exposed as an authenticated REST endpoint your systems query directly.

  • On-demand and scheduled endpoints
  • Rate limits agreed to your load profile
  • Sandbox keys for integration testing
  • Versioned schema with deprecation notice

Best fit: Product and engineering teams building on live data.

One-time or project extraction

A defined pull for a specific question — market sizing, diligence, a pitch, a one-off audit.

  • Fixed scope agreed in writing upfront
  • Single delivery with full QA report
  • Methodology documented for your records
  • Converts to managed if you want continuity

Best fit: Research, strategy and diligence work with a deadline.

Pricing

Every engagement is quoted individually, because the honest answer depends on your scope: how many sources, how many records, how often, and how the data reaches you. We scope it with you, run a free pilot on your own sources, and then quote a fixed monthly figure — no per-request metering and no overage billing when volumes move. Request a quote and you will have a number after one call.

Rentalcars is usually collected alongside its competitors

Almost nobody buys a single platform in isolation. Rentalcars data becomes useful when it sits next to the competitor set on one schema, refreshed on one schedule, so a price index or availability comparison is genuinely like-for-like.

That is what travel & hospitality data covers, and a Rentalcars-only engagement can be expanded into it without rebuilding. If you already know you need several platforms, start there instead — it is the same pipeline and usually the better scoping conversation.

FAQ

Rentalcars data scraping: frequently asked questions

Platform-specific questions, including what cannot be collected here.

No. A broker resells supplier inventory at a price it sets, with its margin inside the quoted number rather than visible as a line.

A broker rate for a supplier and that supplier's own direct rate are two different numbers for the same car, and neither is wrong. price_setter is recorded so nothing downstream averages them.

Only where you collect both sides, and then it is a calculation you make from two records. Where only one side is observed, no.

We do not infer a margin from one side — the same position as platform markup on our Uber Eats page.

Because comparing a broker rate to a direct rate on headline price alone is the standard error, and inclusions are why. Cover bundling, fuel policy, mileage caps and driver charges all differ between quotes for the same car.

We capture them as structured fields and do not compute a like-for-like adjusted rate, because that would require pricing cover the other side did not quote.

Not necessarily, and we do not attribute a cause. A supplier appearing on a broker means the broker has an allocation; absence means it does not — which tells you nothing about the supplier's own availability.

The structural fundamentals are identical — class not car, per-day derived from the total, each fee its own field, no fleet data — and we say so rather than restating them.

What differs is the price setter, the inclusions, and the absence of a direct relationship with the fleet.

We quote individually on locations times classes times date ranges times observations. Supplier count adds rows but not much cost, since a broker returns them together.

One scoping call, a free pilot within 24 hours, then a fixed monthly quote. Request a quote.
